«Что-то в ветре». Фраза something in the wind пришла из мира охоты, а не из мира моряков, как может показаться. Имеется в виду запах зверя, который учуяли собаки. Если something is in the wind, то, значит, добыча близко и что-то должно произойти. Обычно эту фразу используют, когда хотят сообщить о приближении чего-либо значительного, несмотря на отсутствие явных признаков этого. What's in the wind? использовалось в качестве дружеского приветствия, означая What's happening? Что нового?, Что происходит?.

Something's in the wind. I can feel it in my bones. I reckon that the problem will be solved by the end of the week. — Что-то должно произойти. Я совершенно в этом уверен. Думаю, что проблема будет решена к концу недели.
